The Oklahoma Policy Institute announced today that Executive Director Ahniwake Rose is leaving the organization in May to begin work for a national tribal policy organization. Rose will leave OK Policy following the end of the state’s legislative session in May. Deputy Director Shiloh Kantz, who has served the organization for more than 12 years, will serve as the interim executive director following Rose’s departure. OK Policy Board Chair Joe Siano said the organization has benefited from Rose’s leadership during the past two and a half years. “We can’t understate Ahniwake’s leadership in focusing the organization on long-term strategies, as well as managing OK Policy through the enormous complexities created by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Siano said. “We appreciate her stewardship that ensured OK Policy remains on sound financial footing with a well-prepared team ready to help our state make better policy decisions.” When Rose leaves OK Policy, she will remain based in Oklahoma and join the National Indian Health Board, a national organization focused on advocating for the fulfillment of the trust responsibility through the delivery of health and public health services, which has been a throughline for her professional career. A citizen of the Cherokee Nation and also of Muscogee (Creek) descent, Rose came to OK Policy after serving as Deputy Director and interim Executive Director of the National Congress of American Indians in Washington, D.C. “I am immensely proud of the work by our OK Policy team, and Oklahoma is fortunate to have a group like ours focused on providing non-partisan, data-driven information to inform better decision making by elected officials and providing tools that can help everyday residents advocate for policies that serve their needs,” she said. “I also want to say thank you to all the individuals and organizations who have invested in OK Policy over the years. Our state is blessed to have such enthusiastic support as we work together to make state policy work on behalf of all residents.” Launched in 2008, OK Policy works to advance equitable and fiscally responsible policies that expand opportunity for all Oklahomans through non-partisan research, analysis, and advocacy. The organization has grown rapidly in recent years, and it currently has a full-time staff of 28 people working statewide.
