ACT TODAY! Lawmakers are rushing poorly targeted revenue cuts in special session

Lawmakers during this special session appear to be rushing through revenue-reducing measures that will not offer needed or timely inflation relief for low- and moderate-income families.

Called into special session on June 13 by the governor, lawmakers waited until the last minute to unveil a number of revenue-reducing measures on Monday, with the intent of passing them through the House in two days. The introduced measures are not only complicated but contradictory. Tax reform should not be rushed through at the last minute.

Furthermore, the majority of the measures introduced will not bring needed relief to the Oklahoma families most affected by inflation: cuts to the personal income tax and corporate income tax, for instance, will most benefit the highest income earners. By contrast, a targeted expansion of the sales tax relief credit would bring needed help to low- and moderate-income families.

Please ask your lawmakers to support measures to bring targeted and timely relief to low- and moderate-income families, and to reject bills that would cut needed revenues and put Oklahoma even further behind in its ability to deliver essential shared services.
