Thousands of Oklahomans lost their health care when they lost their jobs during this pandemic. Gov. Stitt recognized the enormity of their losses, then turned his back on them Thursday by vetoing SB 1046, a bill that would have brought much-needed health care to Oklahomans. The bill would have provided the majority of funding for the first year of Medicaid expansion in Oklahoma. Medicaid exists to support families during economic hardship. Far from “protecting taxpayers” as he stated with his veto, Gov. Stitt instead signed away access to needed health care for hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans. By dismissing Medicaid expansion, Gov. Stitt also rejects the 9-to-1 federal match that would have pumped more than $1 billion into the Oklahoma economy every year. Please contact your State Senator and State Representative today and tell them to fund Medicaid expansion before the session closes. Your voice is needed to let lawmakers know that we want to help protect our fellow Oklahomans and get them the health care they desperately need during this national health emergency.
