Dear Friend, The Oklahoma Senate should consider HB 3350, which would provide an overdue cost of living adjustment (COLA) for state retirees. Oklahoma’s retired public servants — which includes teachers, firefighters and police officers — haven’t received a cost of living increase in over 10 years. The House has passed HB 3350 unanimously, and now the bill is at risk of dying on the Senate floor. Please call Senator Treat and Senator Thompson and ask them to pass HB 3350 before the Senate adjourns! - Sen. Treat: 405-521-5632
- Sen. Thompson: 405-521-5588
Please remind the Senate leaders that: - Giving a cost of living adjustment to retirees will not cost the state anything because it has already been funded.
- Oklahoma public retirees receive lower benefits than in surrounding states. Oklahoma teachers receive the smallest pension compared to any neighboring state, and public employees receive less than half the benefits of retirees in Colorado.
- If lawmakers don't pass a COLA now, retirees will have to wait another two years AT LEAST because of state law.
- Every dollar paid out to an Oklahoma retiree puts $1.39 back into the Oklahoma economy. This helps all Oklahomans, not just retirees!
HB 3350 can make a difference now both to our state economy and our retired public servants, such as firefighters, police and highway patrol officers, teachers, and state employees.
