On Monday, Oklahoma lawmakers will have the opportunity to protect Oklahoma renters from unscrupulous, out-of-state landlords. HB 2109 would create common-sense protections for tenants who complain about health and safety issues in their homes.

Please contact your State Representative and ask them to vote YES on HB 2109. By clicking the buttons below, you can choose to email or call your lawmaker.

  • Oklahoma is 1 of just 6 states that doesn't protect renters from retaliation. Kansas, Texas, and other bordering states ensure better protections for renters than Oklahoma
  • Under current law, a renter household can be - and are - evicted or otherwise penalized for raising concerns on issues such as nonfunctional air conditioning, open sewage, pest infestations, and more
  • A tight market and skyrocketing rents mean that tenants - and their families - often can't just move out when their housing is unsafe
  • Right now, tenants aren't protected from out-of-state - or even out-of-country - corporate landlords that value shareholder profits over Oklahoma lives and well-being. Oklahoma ranks 3rd nationwide in institutional investment in single-family rentals, and 12th nationwide in foreign real estate investment
  • 1 in 3 Oklahoma families rent their home. They need our protection.

Oklahoma families deserve common-sense protections. For more information, check out OK Policy's latest analysis on the need for Oklahoma renters to be protected from unscrupluous landlords.

Please contact your State Representative NOW and ask them to vote YES on HB 2109
