Members of the House's Administrative Rules committee are scheduled to hear a bill on Wednesday with important ramifications for Native American Oklahomans. Senate Bill 299 (Sen. Thompson) would update statute to strengthen the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education, which makes recommendations on supporting Native students to the state Department of Education.

Please contact committee members and ask them to vote YES on SB 299.

  • SB 299 would help the more than 130,000 Native American children in Oklahoma schools
  • SB 299 would expand appointment authority from just the Governor to include members of the legislature, strengthening the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education's ability to function
  • SB 299 would better represent tribal interests by ensuring appointments on the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education are made from recommendations  submitted by elected tribal leaders in the state.

With your help, we can support Native children in public schools. Contact members of the House's Administrative Rules committee today and ask them to vote YES on SB 299!
