We are calling on the Oklahoma Legislature to override the Governor's veto on SB299, a bill with important ramifications for Native American students. Senate Bill 299 (Sen. Thompson) would preserve the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education, which promotes education opportunities, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for supporting Native students to the state Department of Education. Please contact members of the Oklahoma Senate and House and ask them to override the Governor's veto on SB 299. |

- SB 299 would continue helping more than 156,000 Native American children in Oklahoma public schools.
- SB 299 would expand appointment authority to include members of the legislature, further strengthening the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education's ability to function.
- SB 299 would better represent tribal interests by ensuring appointments on the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education are made from recommendations submitted by elected tribal leaders in the state.
- SB299 would renew the Oklahoma Advisory Council on Indian Education until July 1, 2026. Without the veto override from legislators, the Council is currently scheduled to sunset on July 1, 2023.
With your help, we can support Native children in public schools. Contact your legislators and ask them to override the veto on SB 299! |
