SB 868 would create state overreach by punishing cities for protecting their residents. This is being considered in the State Senate.  HB 1362 would separate Oklahoma children from their parents. This bill has moved to the Senate for consideration. Using the links below, you can send emails to your lawmakers asking them to vote NO on these bills.  SB 868 creates state overreach by punishing cities for protecting their residents   Oklahoma lawmakers are set to hear SB 868, a bill that would ban "sanctuary cities" and strip municipalities of the ability to set their own policies to protect immigrant residents from Trump's mass deportation machine. This bill threatens to withhold state funding from localities if they choose to prioritize the health and safety of their residents. The state of Oklahoma should not abuse its power and interfere with communities' ability to set their own laws that reflect the needs and values of their residents.   The Senate is set to hear SB 868 at any time, so please contact your State Senator now and ask them to vote NO on SB 868.   The state should not interfere with local communities and force them to support Trump's mass deportation agenda. Cities need the ability to make our communities safer and stronger for all of us. Currently, no city in Oklahoma has "sanctuary policies" on the books. Deportations and punitive immigration policies harm both immigrants and U.S. citizens. Burdening county jails with ICE-like responsibilities is expensive and does not make our communities safer. This bill would skip due process considerations and automatically charge Oklahoma immigrants with a felony over something as simple as driving without a license. Growing our prison population, separating parents from their children, and enacting racist laws will not make us safer.   A Senate committee is set to hear HB 1362 at any time, so please contact your Senator now and ask them to VOTE NO ON HB 1362.   This racist bill targets Oklahoma's immigrant communities and would be detrimental to our state's families and workforce.  More than 57,000 Oklahoma children live with at least one undocumented family member. This bill would separate our neighbors from their loved ones and instill fear in our communities. More than three percent of Oklahoma's workforce are undocumented immigrants. Incarcerating hard working Oklahomans will hurt not just our families but also our economy.
