Write a letter and ask your legislator to support restoring the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). This credit for low -and middle-income families is proven to help reduce poverty and help working families get ahead. Unfortunately, the EITC in Oklahoma is less valuable than it used to be. To help fill a budget shortfall in 2016, the Legislature cut the credit by making it nonrefundable. Now, if the amount of the credit is more than the household’s income tax bill, the balance is not refunded. This has meant close to an average of $120 less for 200,000 low-wage working families - money that could be used to stay on top of bills and pump dollars back into the local economy. Cutting this important boost to the financial security of low-income families was the wrong way to fill the budget hole. Lawmakers can fix that mistake this year. Learn more about the EITC and how it helps working Oklahomans by visiting oksays.com. Then write your legislators and ask them to support restoring the EITC this session. Together we can make a difference, Sabine Brown
