YOUR VOICE MATTERS | Speak out against efforts to undermine the state question process, restrict small farmers, and pass tax cuts that benefit the wealthy

Here are some recent opportunities for advocates to speak out against bills that work against everyday Oklahomans.

Hundreds of advocates contacted lawmakers to speak out against two bills being heard in committee: SB 484 (restricting homelessness services) and SB 675 (Tribal data sovereignty). Both bills failed to advance out of committee.    Thank you to the many advocates who took the time to email and call lawmakers about these bills! During these times, we need to be reminded that our political voices do matter when we see policies that would don't serve our state or further marginalize people in our communities. There are more opportunities for advocates to speak out against bills currently working their way through the legislative process. Using the the links below, you can easily contact lawmakers about the three bills highlighted below.    If you want to contact your own lawmakers about these or other issues, you can find their contact information via OK Policy's Legislator Lookup tool.  Tell lawmakers to oppose attacks on our right to put state questions on the ballot (SB 1027)   The initiative petition is a necessary check on the government's power. However, some lawmakers are trying to restrict this right through SB 1027, which will place unconstitutional and antidemocratic restrictions on the citizen's initiative process. Instead of attacking direct democracy, lawmakers should work with everyday citizens to make better policy that benefits all Oklahomans. (SB 133)   SB 133 would require a U.S. passport or valid Oklahoma driver's license for landowners to be eligible to receive a groundwater permit for any non-domestic use of water on their property. Infringing on how landowners can use water on their properties just because of their immigration status is wrong.
